Before you call or enquire

Do I need a referral?

All specialist appointment require a referral. Nurse appointments do not require a referral unless they are 16 years old and under.

What will it cost?

Fees vary depending on the service, appointment type and whether hospital or anaesthetic fees apply.

What should I bring?

Bring your referral (if applicable), recent blood tests, imaging, medication list and any relevant medical information.

Not sure what to book?

Start with your symptoms, test results or referral and our nursing team can guide you to the right next step.

When you call our clinic

When you call us, you'll speak with Emily, our AI phone assistant. Emily can book, confirm, cancel and reschedule your appointments, and she'll confirm who you are by matching your name with your phone number.

If Emily can't help with your request, she'll transfer you to our reception team or arrange for them to call you back. Urgent calls and calls from healthcare professionals are passed to reception straight away.

Emily was trained by Dr Nathan Connelly and Nicole, and she follows the same rules as our reception team. We introduced her after a careful review of how we handle calls, so fewer calls are missed, messages reach the right person sooner, and our team can spend more time caring for patients.

We'd love to hear how Emily is going. Positive or constructive, your feedback helps her keep improving.

FAQs

Find answers to common questions about appointments, referrals, procedures and gastroenterology care at our Melbourne specialist clinic.

Do I need a referral to see a gastroenterologist?

Most patients will need a referral from a GP or medical specialist to book an appointment with our gastroenterology specialists in Melbourne. This allows us to understand your medical history and provide appropriate care. Some services, such as FibroScan liver scans, may be available without a referral. If you're unsure, our team can guide you through the process and help you book the right appointment.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your initial consultation involves a detailed discussion with a gastroenterologist about your symptoms, medical history and any test results. From there, we may recommend further investigations such as a gastroscopy, colonoscopy or FibroScan. Our goal is to provide clear answers and a structured plan for diagnosis and treatment.

What gastroenterology procedures do you perform?

We provide a comprehensive range of procedures, including capsule endoscopy, FibroScan liver assessment, gastroscopy, and colonoscopy. These procedures help diagnose gastrointestinal diseases affecting the gut, stomach and liver. All procedures are performed by experienced specialists in a safe, clinical environment.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We aim to provide fast access to gastroenterology specialist care for patients. Appointment availability can vary, but we prioritise urgent cases and work to minimise delays between consultation, diagnosis and treatment.

Where is your clinic located?

Our clinic is located in Essendon, Melbourne, and is easily accessible for patients across Victoria. We are based in an old church almost on the corner of Mt Alexander Road and Thorn Street, next door to The Happy Apple (Essendon). Our full address is 1003 Mt Alexander Rd, Essendon VIC 3040.

Please be mindful not to be confused with a similarly named clinic nearby, which is an entirely separate clinic from us. There is convenient parking nearby, and public transport is within walking distance, making it easy to attend your appointment. We are also a preferred clinic for many interstate patients, and offer telehealth appointments when required.

‍

Will my referring doctor receive my results?

Yes, we provide results and updates to your referring GP or specialist unless otherwise requested. We also offer follow-up consultations to explain your results, discuss treatment options and ensure you feel confident in your ongoing care.
