Dr Nathan Connelly

Dr Nathan Connelly is a highly skilled and experienced gastroenterologist with subspecialty interests in liver conditions and functional gut disorders like irritable bowel syndrome.

He trained at the University of Melbourne and The Austin Hospital’s liver transplant unit before opening Moonee Valley Specialist Centre in 2011.

With conditions like inflammatory bowel syndrome, young-onset bowel cancer and fatty liver disease on the rise, gastroenterology is an important area of medicine.

Nathan offers clinical consultations and a range of procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, haemorrhoid banding, flexible sigmoidoscopy and capsule endoscopy.

Asked what’s most important in his work, Nathan says it’s genuinely caring for the patient. Living with a gut or liver condition is not easy and many patients have had bad experiences with previous doctors. Nathan emphasises the importance of a good patient-doctor relationship where the doctor listens, understands what the patient wants and provides clear advice and information.

Describing his style as ‘a bit adventurous’, Nathan gains a deep sense of satisfaction from tailoring treatments to bring relief to patients. A good day at work is one where he’s made a clear difference by connecting with patients, making a rare diagnosis or having an insight that leads to better treatment outcomes. Outside work, he enjoys a good round of golf and spending time with his family.
